Devious Journal Entry

A band of which I am a member and co-founder, Scab Sand Witch, got third place in the Just Plain Folks music awards last weekend for best experimental song of 2009. I am very happy about this.

Here is the track. Its called 842AM and its actually a remix of another track called 8:15AM which I'll also post.

I am currently working on setting up a table at a local art center called The Chicken Farm. I'm going to sell (hopefully)framed prints of some of my abstracts and nature shots as well as music cds from 7-point records and maybe some handmade poetry books, as well as some of my sister's craft hats. The framed prints look really awesome, so I'm pretty excited about giving it a shot.

Adventure

Sun Jun 21, 2009, 6:52 PM
Day after tomorrow I am going to be taking the first out of state trip I've been on in a couple of years. A couple of months back, I was nominated for a position on the board of directors for the United Church of Christ's Coalition for LGBT concerns. They are having a big conference this week and the elections for the nominees will be taking place there.

I don't know much about the situation- what it is they want from the members, whether I am qualified to participate, or whether they will even want me once they meet me, but its an adventure, anyway. We'll see what happens.

Even if I don't actually get elected, I feel like this will at least give me a chance to get my foot in the door for opportunities to do some good. Right now I really want to try to make something positive out of the wierdness that is my life, and I'd love to find some way to help other people who are going through some of the same things have an easier time with it.

Wish me luck!

Sometimes its hard for me to fathom how blessed I am or to understand why. Its easy to get lost among the thorns, to forget how fortunate I am that I am so remarkably gifted by the presence of amazing and beautiful people all around me. In the last few days I have been reminded several times, and I'm glad.

The Branches, the Roots

Tue May 12, 2009, 6:41 PM
I hate Twitter.

I hate the entire idea of it, which, as far as I can tell, is not really an idea at all. In fact, Im not sure that its possible to actually hate something that so barely even manages to be anything in the first place.

I dunno. Maybe its just me. In fact, its almost certainly just me, because everyone else in the world seems to think its awesome...whatever IT is.

But anyway, my eccentric hatred for it aside, I decided to get a twitter account anyway and use it for an experiment. I doubt, seriously, that Im the first person to do anything like this, but I really hate the whole thing so much that I cant be bothered to investigate and see if anyone else is doing it too. ::laughs::

So, here's what Im doing. I'm going to write a story, maybe even a book, on Twitter. I'm forcing myself to use the medium in a particular way. Each entry must do its best to continue the previous entry, but also to be a complete thought in its own right. I am only going to post a single entry a day. And of course, the entries are limited to the 140 character maximum which includes punctuation and spaces. Also, I am going to let the story, like the Fox Diary was in the beginning, just go where it will. It is already taking shape and beginning to have a life of its own, but it started from a simple personal vision I have had for several years: a single mental image that constitutes, for me, what "peace" looks like, or what that word conjures in my mind. Since I cant draw it or paint it, I decided to write about it, and having briefly and very simply described it, I let it be the starting point for whatever comes next.

Its been fun, and very easy, and the enforced simplicity and discipline of it will likely be good for my writing in general.
If you care to see it, its here:
